Mining faculty (so the Geotechnology and Management faculty called before 1999) was created at the beginning of 1923/1924 academic year.

The first dean of the faculty was prof. Vasiliy Belov.

At the beginning the faculty joined all special subjects of mining circle for 2 specialities: mining engineer in operation of natural resources deposits and mining engineer-mechanic.

Afterwards till the mid-90-s of the XX-th century the faculty trained only mining engineers of natural resources deposits exploring.

In connection with development of market economy in Ukraine and necessity of qualified specialists training for work in conditions of new managing since 1995 the faculty was started admitting students of new speciality - "Management in Production Sphere".

With every coming year the number of specialities is constantly increasing.

In 1999 Mining faculty was renamed into Geotechnology and Management faculty.

Nearly 20,000 specialists graduated from the faculty. They work not only in mines but also in scientific and research institutions, such in higher and special secondary schools.

More than 80% leaders of mines and mining amalgamations are graduates of the faculty.

Famous scientists, influential businessmen who occupy high posts in administrations of cities, towns of the region are among the faculty graduates.

The faculty graduates get lingual, legal economic and computer qualification in accordance with modern demands.

Students take an active part in scientific researches of faculty chairs. They can do post-graduate course, probation abroad.

Seminars and lectures are hold in specially equipment academic building, which has educational television and computer classes. Students live in hostels, which have all modern convenience for study and rest. More than 85% of teaching staff has scientific degree, 10 of them are doctors of science.

High qualification of faculty teaching staff allows conducting scientific researches at high level. The faculty is famous for its scientific branches headed by outstanding scientists. Some scientific schools headed by faculty scientists are internationally famous
